The Raspberry Pi has long been one of the best credit card sized computers, but today a new version is available that comes in at about the size of a stick of gum. Plus, it’s only $5.
The Raspberry Pi Zero is obviously less powerful than the Raspberry Pi 2, but that’s made up for in the price. Still, it’s pretty powerful all things considered. Here’s what’s packed inside the 65mm x 30mm board:
- BCM2835 chip (same as Pi 1) but up-clocked to 1GHz
- 512MB of RAM
- Micro-SD
- Mini-HDMI
- Micro-USB for data
- Micro-USB for power
- Unpopulated 40-pin GPIO connector (same pinout as A+/B+/2B)
The Raspberry Pi Zero is included free with this month’s copy of MagPi(available at Barnes & Noble and Microcenter). Otherwise, Adafruit andelement14 have the Raspberry Pi Zero in the US, while The Pi Hut, Pimoronia, and the Raspberry Pi Swag Store stock it in Europe. Orders are limited to two per person at launch.
